Fourteen water councils from across Cabañas, accompanied by ADES and the Health Forum, delivered a letter to the Legislative Assembly in Cabañas this morning, demanding no water privatization.

This action comes after the right-wing parties ARENA, GANA, PCN, and PDC introduced the Comprehensive Water Lawon June 14. According to the letter, signed by various communities in Victoria, Sensuntepeque, Guacotecti, San Isidro, and Ilobasco, it is a proposal that commercializes the management of water and creates conditions to privatize the drinking water service provided by ANDA, municipalities, and rural water councils.

The community demonstrated its rejection to the privatization of water and demanded support for the prompt discussion and approval of the General Water Law, which would guarantee public management of water, with participation from communities.

Leticia Membreño, member of Santa Martas Water Council, discussed the importance of water and the risk of privatization. As women, we worry in the sense that we are the ones that care for everything in our homes, and water is the most precious resource for a home, and would affect us greatly,

At the Legislation Assembly, the communities were met by Representative Marina Alvarenga, who signed the reception and shared her support for the General Water Law.
